Setup

  1. Open Command Click Rescue and choose Open Safari Settings.
  2. In Safari → Settings → Extensions, enable Command Click Rescue.
  3. Allow access to the websites where you want it to work. Safari lets you choose individual sites or All Websites.
  4. Reload the page and Command-click a real HTTP or HTTPS link.

Using the Safari toolbar button

Click Command Click Rescue in Safari’s toolbar to open its popup. It provides protection status, setup instructions, a demo, and support. Protection runs automatically on websites you allow.

If the popup says “Check website access,” open a normal HTTP or HTTPS page, allow the extension access to that website in Safari’s extension controls, and reload. Safari’s Start Page, settings, and other internal pages do not allow content scripts.

If the toolbar button is unresponsive, check that the installed app is build 2 or later, open the app once, and restart Safari. Enable the extension in Safari Settings → Extensions. If it remains unresponsive, email support with your macOS and Safari versions.

If a link still opens in the same tab

Check that the extension is enabled and has access to that website. Reload after permission changes. The clicked element must contain a real link destination; a button that navigates only through JavaScript cannot always be protected.

If new tabs open in the foreground

Safari controls this behavior. Check Safari’s Tabs settings. The extension preserves Safari’s native action and does not force a foreground or background tab.

If the extension is missing

Open the installed app once, then restart Safari and check Extensions. App Store builds do not require Safari’s developer settings.

Try a controlled test

Open the Command-click demo, allow access to masteranza.github.io, and reload. Command-click the demo link: the destination should open in a new tab and the source should remain in place.

Report a problem

Email masteranza@gmail.com with your macOS and Safari versions, app build number, a public example URL if possible, your website-access setting, and what happened when you Command-clicked. Avoid account information or screenshots containing personal data.

If you prefer, open a GitHub issue. GitHub issues are public and require a GitHub account.

Compatibility and limits

The app requires macOS 12 or later. Links in frames and shadow DOM work where Safari permits content scripts; websites may run handlers before the extension is injected. Download links, ordinary clicks, and non-web URL schemes are left alone.
